Should You Be Triple Cleansing?

As per our recent article, double cleansing is important even when you don’t wear makeup. It was the multi-step Korean skincare craze that revealed that many people were not fully and thoroughly cleaning their face. Many people who have tried the double cleanse method can attest to it as they have seen their skin condition improve. When you’re using an oil-based cleanser then a water-based cleanser to fully remove your makeup, excess oil, dirt and pollution, your skin should clear up and become softer. By using makeup removers and then face cleansers, this double cleanse process should help in preventing acne and slowing the aging process.

Next Step: Triple Cleansing, what is this madness?

Triple cleansing is simply double cleansing plus a cleansing wipe beforehand. To start, you use the cleansing wipes first to gently remove makeup and other stubborn impurities, such as mascara and waterproof eyeliner. You can also use it to wipe your neck and décolleté area. It is important to use the correct cleansing wipes (so please stay away from baby wipes and the wet naps they give you at restaurants to clean your hands!). Then you continue as you would with double cleansing: massaging your face with an oil cleanser to remove the oil-based dirt and rinse. Then finally, now that your face should still be wet from rinsing, add a foam cleanser to remove water-based dirt. Rinse and gently dry with a clean towel.

It’s an extra step and may feel like a lot of work but it isn’t necessary all the time. It’s just when you feel your face has extra dirt or extra greasy or when you’re wearing extra heavy makeup. Use the cleansing wipe to help rid just the first layer of dirt. Triple cleansing is all about removing dirt and oil that has been built up during the day. Doesn’t hurt to give it a try and add it to your skincare routine once in a while!
