Beauty News: The latest makeup sponge to break the internet!

Makeup sponge applicators always seemed like the uneventful purchase at the pharmacy. Necessary, but not always the most exciting! But then, BeautyBlender emerged and created the biggest buzz makeup sponges have ever seen! It was when we found this amazing simple way to attain a seamless, finish airbrushed look without having to be a professional makeup artist or spending hours blending! We also learned great makeup tricks, such as wetting the sponge beforehand, so that we could make the foundation have a smoother, streak-free blend and last longer. However, we then found out that more and more of our bb cream and foundation were being consumed by these types of sponges, especially when they are wet, and using up our precious foundation product.

Last year, in an effort to stop wasting foundation, beauty bloggers creatively thought of a beauty hack to create a makeup sponge: using silicone bra inserts. Now instead of having to DIY it, a new makeup sponge has was launched: the SiliSponge! This Asian makeup item is a clear, non-porous silicone applicator, created by Molly Cosmetics and is from Hong Kong (though we believe many Korean beauty fans will give it a try!). It was discovered on Reddit and has created a new buzz again for makeup blending and perhaps even a new genre of makeup tools.
It looks just like a silicone chicken cutlet but it definitely does the job without having to lose out on so much foundation. You can watch a video here to see its flawless effects!

The SiliSponge is being referred to as the new and improved BeautyBlender and these major benefits:
- It has a non-porous silicone surface, made out of silicone and encapsulated in a highly-flexible material called thermoplastic polyurethane, that won't soak in your foundation, highlighter, or cream blush (so it won’t be wasted!)
- Due to its smooth texture, you can actually save more of the product. The amount of liquid or cream products you need to spread on it is about half the amount of a regular sponge or using a brush. Though spreading it will take some time getting used to and a final makeup brush or makeup sponge will still be needed for the final blending process. This is actually a double benefit because it will also help your brushes and sponges last longer since you won’t be using them as often.
- It is hygienic!
- It is SUPER easy to clean! All you need to do is rinse with soap and water. You do not need to wait for it to dry or spend endless amounts of time cleaning (like with makeup brush cleaning) it until the water runs clear. For our Korean makeup artist friends, you can also use makeup remover and sanitizing spray to clean it as well before your next client.
- Finally, it lasts longer than a regular makeup sponge! You just need to replace it when it starts to get worn out.
It currently is selling for about $9 but so far it has been sold out everywhere! It is expected to be back in stock in mid-January. We will keep you posted if we get our hands on it to send out to our reviewers!
